Our book this half term will be 'The Butterfly Lion' by Michael Morpurgo.

We will read this book every day giving the children the opportunity to improve their fluency and intonation when reading out loud. As a class and independently, the children will work on retrieval skills, explaining and discussing their understanding of the text, drawing inferences and justifying these with evidence and evaluating how authors use language.

This half term our IPC topic is 'Go with the flow: Investigating Rivers'.

The children's learning will include:

*an understanding of the water cycle

*where a river starts and an in-depth look at its journey

*identifying some of the physical aspects of a local river using secondary sources

*learning to use geographical vocabulary associated with rivers

Within this topic we will be learning how to:

* compare and group together everyday materials

* understand that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and describe how to recover a substance from a solution

* use knowledge of solids, liquids and gases to decide how mixtures might be separated, including through filtering, sieving and evaporating

* demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes
