The school day starts at 8:50 am and ends at 3 pm. Please make sure you collect your child on time as it is a very long day for them.

Reception children should be in full uniform with school shoes (no trainers).Remember the children are outside for a large portion of the day so please make sure they have a coat in school.

Our PE day is Wednesday, there are still a number of children who do not bring their kit. This can be very upsetting for the children, please can you make sure your child brings their PE kit on Monday and takes it home on Friday to wash. Remember your child is responsible for undressing and dressing themselves, please allow them time to practice at home. All clothes need to be clearly labelled to avoid any confusion.

All children have a 'reading day' which is displayed on the classroom door or window for you to see. It is important that your child has their reading book and words in their bag on this day. This is the day when the teacher will listen to them read and change their books. Unfortunately there are some children who do not have their books or words in school on a weekly basis. Regular practice at school and home is very important for your child's progress.

Over the next few weeks Reception children will be learning about ‘Transport’. Children will take part in planning a trip for their teddy bear and will learn to work alongside each other, and to take on different roles in different contexts.

After the trip the children will learn about different ways of travelling.

They will:

• Look at all kinds of cars, lorries, planes and other vehicles

• Make an airport / bus / train station in their classroom

• Play with boats in the water tray and diggers in the sand tray

• Make model vehicles

• Go on a pretend magic carpet ride

The children will learn about making choices and paying attention. There will be opportunities to discuss road safety and the role of the emergency services, helping children to learn about keeping themselves safe from harm.
