Our book this half term will be 'Coming to England' by Floella Benjamin.

We will read this book every day giving the children the opportunity to improve their fluency and intonation when reading out loud. As a class and independently, the children will work on retrieval skills, explaining and discussing their understanding of the text, drawing inferences and justifying these with evidence and evaluating how authors use language.

This half term our IPC topic is 'Anglo-Saxon Britain'.

The children will be learning about who the Anglo-Saxons were and where they came from, look at where the Anglo-Saxons settled and how they lived whilst making comparisons to our own lives today.

Within this unit the children will also learn about the Anglo-Saxon religion and beliefs, their use of runes for communication and the mystery of Sutton Hoo.

Our Science topic this half term is 'Changes of Properties and Materials'.

Within this topic we will be learning how to:

* compare and group together everyday materials

* understand that some materials will dissolve in liquid to form a solution, and describe how to recover a substance from a solution

* use knowledge of solids, liquids and gases to decide how mixtures might be separated, including through filtering, sieving and evaporating

* demonstrate that dissolving, mixing and changes of state are reversible changes
