St. Clare and St. Francis

Welcome to Year 2!

Welcome to the Year Two web page, with Ms Butler and Ms Asantewaa. We will be posting upcoming events and news, so watch this space.

The Year Two class plays will be performed for parents on Monday 22nd July 2013 at 1.45pm in the Infant Hall. We very much hope that parents and carers will be able to come and support the children in this exciting event. They have worked really hard!

Our IPC topic this half term is 'All Dressed Up'.
Our fashion parades were fabulous! We will be using our clothes as a starting point for investigating the countries they came from.

Both Year 2 clases visited the Little Angel Puppet Theatre to see a puppet show based on the popular children's book 'We're going on a bear hunt'.
There was then a puppet-making workshop and performance by each class. Groups of children will be performing their puppet shows to other classes over the coming weeks. We will post some photos of these as they happen.

The trips to Clacton were a great success! Have a look at the photos in the Gallery...

The Grand Opening of St Clare's cafe was a great success. The children worked really hard and their enterprise paid off, as they raised more than £100!  Many thanks to all those members of the school community who came to eat and drink in our cafe.
St Francis class ran their cafe the following week. It was also a great success and very well attended. They raised over £150.
We really enjoyed working with the Enabling Enterprise people on our cafe project. You can find out more about Enabling Enterprise by visiting their website at
 www.enablingenterprise.org

Both classes have spent the profit we made on our trip to the Palm House, where we learnt about plants and animals in different habitats. This was the exit point for our topic on 'Flowers and Insects'. We had a fantastic time and learnt so much! Check out the gallery for our photos.

Homework for St Clare's class this week is to learn your lines for the school play. The same as last week. Keep reading them and trying to repeat them until you know them really well - then do it some more!

St Francis class this week you also have to learn your lines for the class play. Keep on practising the songs as well.

Lots of you were inspired by writing a report about an animal.Try clicking on this site to find out about all kinds of different animals:http://www.kidzone.ws/animals/index.html

For Numeracy, also please continue to practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s.
Why not try and give yourself a challenge and try to count in 3s or 4s if you have become confident at counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. Remember to use your skill at counting in 2s, 5s or 10s when solving multiplication or division problems and especially when working with money. Parents and carers can help the children to understand money and practise counting in 2s, 5s and 10s, by giving them the opportunity to count up your loose change!
We are concentrating on partitioning 2 and 3 digit numbers into their tens and units in order to make it easier to work with them on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Parents please do come and talk to the teacher if you need tips on helping your child.

Have you seen the Kids' Zone? Play games, and visit some cool websites. You can vote for your favourites! And don't forget Purple Mash - lots of fun activities to keep you busy!

Do you have any ideas for this page? Why not let us know!
